Green solubilizers for your formulations - and what else they can do

Challenge: Dissolving hydrophobic compounds with natural solubilizers

It is often difficult to incorporate oily substances into the water phase without using polysorbates or ethoxylated or PEG-containing ingredients.

Thanks to Seppic's expertise in the field of green chemistry, we offer two plant-based, natural solubilizers that provide an alternative here: SEPICLEAR™ G7 (INCI: Heptyl Glucoside) and ORAMIX™ CG110 (INCI: Caprylyl/Capryl Glucoside).

Both types are natural, liquid, cold processable, easy to use and therefore very energy efficient.

SEPICLEAR™ G7

SEPICLEAR™ G7 (INCI: Heptyl Glucoside) s a powerful non-ionic solubilizer derived from sugar and castor seeds.

Unlike other natural solubilizers, it does not produce foam, which is an essential point when formulating cosmetic products such as toners, facial waters, perfumes or watery gels.

Main features:

Preservation Booster - new data

We have also re-explored the potential of SEPICLEAR™ G7 and discovered its reinforcing preservative properties.

Thanks to challenge tests conducted in accordance with ISO 11930, it has been proven that SEPICLEAR G7™ can reduce the dosage of preservatives to achieve criterion A, whereas this would not be possible with the preservative alone at a low dosage. Therefore, formulators can use less preservative while maintaining the same protection.

Its preservative-enhancing properties can be explained by its hydrotropic property, which increases the solubility of preservatives in formulations and reduces water activity, which increases the performance of preservatives.

Effect in cream gels

Sepiclear G7™ enables droplet size reduction and improves the microscopic aspect and whiteness of cream gels, supporting stability.

Make-up removal

It increases the make-up removal power of your make-up remover formulation (tested on a W/O foundation compared to ethoxylated solubilizers) and thus improves the efficiency of cleansing. Thus, it offers a smart solution for micellar water.

ORAMIX™ CG110

ORAMIX™ CG110 (INCI: Caprylyl/Capryl Glucoside) is an ultra gentle solvent and detergent with high foaming power and stability. It is a non-ionic surfactant derived from sugar.

Main features:

• Solubilizer for perfume and essential oils*.
• Gentle surfactant for cleaning
• Produces a fine and rich foam (from ≈2 %, CMC 1.7 g/l).

Other features: GMO free, COSMOS & Natrue certified, RSPO MB certified, readily biodegradable, EO and PEG free, NOC 100% according to ISO 16128, China listed

But ORAMIX™ CG110 also offers other interesting functions.

Gentle surfactant

ORAMIX™ CG 110 shows strong foaming and cleansing performance comparable to Sodium Laureth Ether Sulfate, but at the same time very gentle to skin and eyes.

Effect in cream gels and emulsions

ORAMIX™ CG 110 enables the reduction of droplet size and improves the microscopic aspect as well as the whiteness of cream gels, thus supporting stability. It also increases the hydrophilicity of O/W emulsifying systems and promotes stability here as well. ORAMIX™ CG 110 liquefies cream gels or emulsions and improves sprayability.
