Acting for climate

Acting for climate copy

At Seppic, a subsidiary of the Air Liquide group, we are aware of our impact on the world, that the climate is a major concern for future generations and that we must act to reduce the impact of our activities on the climate in the short and medium terms.

Every year since 2011, Seppic has calculated its carbon footprint across all of its sites and activities (Scope 1+2+3). The results of its regulatory BEGES (french Greenhouse Gas Balance) are consolidated with those of the other French entities of the Air Liquide group and published on ADEME website.

In line with the Air Liquide group's climate strategy, Seppic is aiming for an absolute reduction of 50% in its greenhouse gas emissions for scopes 1 and 2 by 2030 compared to 2018.

To achieve this objective, Seppic has strategically prioritized optimizing its energy consumption and improving its processes and equipment. In terms of energy, the company has set the objective of achieving 95% renewable electricity on all its sites by 2025 and 100% biogas on all of its French sites by 2030.

In terms of actions, in 2022 the replacement of 1,370 traditional lighting with LED lighting on the Castres site allowed a saving of 58% on the annual consumption of the replaced lighting and an overall saving of 5% on the site's electricity consumption. At the same time, heat recovery equipments made it possible to use it efficiently for heating water intended for cleaning operations and for preheating water before vaporization.

With regard to Scope 3, Seppic has adopted a strategy based mainly on the supply of raw materials with lower CO2 emissions, the optimization of transport and the reduction of the impacts linked to its products.

In fact, by relying on an approach to valorize raw materials of plant origin, Seppic ensures that they are less emitting and comply with sustainability standards such as the RSPO (Roundtable for Sustainable Palm Oil) or the UEBT (Union for Ethical Biotrade). Thanks to an eco-design approach, Seppic reduces the impacts associated with its products on their life cycle. By the end of 2025, Seppic is committed to calculating the carbon impact of its Seppic brand products.

Finally, Seppic makes local sourcing and optimization of its flow of goods a priority in order to reduce its emissions associated with transport by promoting maritime freight and limiting air freight. In 2023, Seppic signed a new partnership with the DHL group for low-carbon maritime transport.
