Hydroxypropylcellulose (HPC) is a cellulose derivative excipient.

Nisso HPC (HydroxyPropylCellulose) is a cellulose derivative excipient, used as wet granulation binder. It can also be used as a film-forming agent for low viscosity grades.

Features and functions

Nisso HPC dissolves in water and organic polar solvents at room temperature.
Being chemically inert, HPC rarely reacts with other reagents.

Nisso HPC is used as an excipient and a process aid for manufacturing of pharmaceutical solutions. HPC improves wet granulation thanks to its binding properties.

Nisso HPC :

  • Dissolves in water and organic solvents, at room temperature
  • Is inert with regard to the active ingredients (API)
  • Improves the hardness of the tablet
  • Optimizes disintegration of the tablet
  • Is soluble in aqueous mediums and 100% ethanol


There are several grades of HPC, which differ in terms of their degree of polymerization and therefore their nominal viscosity.

Nisso HPC is manufactured following the current excipient Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).

Nisso HPC comply with USP/NF; Ph.Eur and JP pharmacopeia.
