Seppic committed to sustainable transformation of the palm industry
Palm accounts for almost half of the plant-based inputs used by Seppic. Aware of the environmental and social issues that can arise if palm cultivation is not carried out in accordance with sustainable practices, Seppic joined the Roundtable for sustainable Palm Oil in 2010 to contribute to the transformation of the palm industry into a sustainable one. To this end, the company gives preference to RSPO-certified palm oil derivatives, a guarantee that the palm oil has been grown, processed, distributed and sold responsibly with strict rules that protect animals, the environment and the people who live in the producing countries. This includes the fight against deforestation, the fair treatment of communities and workers, and the protection of wildlife and the environment.
By 2022, 100% of Seppic's incoming palm volumes will be RSPO-certified, including 85% "Mass Balance" and 15% "Book & Claim".
In addition to certification, Seppic is also committed to guaranteeing traceability of its palm oil-derived inputs. To this end, the company has joined Action for Sustainable Derivatives in 2019 to pool its traceability efforts with other RSPO member companies. Seppic's membership of ASD also implies its adherence to the NDPE (No Deforestation, No Peat, No Exploitation) principles defended by this organization, and its participation in field actions for the sustainable transformation of the palm sector.
In 2023, Seppic achieved an SPI score of 94/100, demonstrating knowledge of its supply chain, sustainable sourcing practices and compliance with the NDPE principles. For its 2022 supply base, Seppic was able to trace 86% of its palm oil derivatives to mills and 62% to plantations.
